Helping Purelake Group stop spam emails and prevent fishing attacks.

Challenge

When Purelake’s staff responded to these emails the hacker used this information to map out the staff and company structure of the business. This led to a series of phishing attacks which targeted staff personally based on the responses they received from the spam emails. The bots were allowing the hacker to target Purelake’s contact form at scale whilst their security, Google’s reCAPTCHA, was unable to block these incoming bots at all.

Solution

In November 2023 Purelake implemented adCAPTCHA to their website. Immediately the bots were identified and blocked. Soon after the bots ceased to attempt attacks as there was no longer a return on the hacker’s investment. To date there have been minimal bots attacks and they have all been blocked.

Impact

Since implementing adCAPTCHA, Purelake Group has successfully eliminated spam form submissions, restoring their contact pages to handle only genuine inquiries. This has freed up staff to focus on meaningful customer interactions, significantly improving productivity and operational efficiency. The phishing attempts that previously exploited spam emails have also been completely mitigated, cutting off the hacker’s ability to gather sensitive internal information. This enhanced security has not only protected the organisation from targeted attacks but has also boosted staff confidence, reducing stress and improving morale.
